  • Tennis tactician: Mouratoglou.

Renowned coach Patrick Mouratoglou, the coach of world No1 Serena Williams, has revealed he is interested in setting up an academy in Dubai, but is yet to confirm any concrete plans about the project.

The Frenchman owns the prestigious Mouratoglou Tennis Academy based in Thiverval-Grignon – 30 minutes outside Paris – which is home to a host of players including Williams, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Jeremy Chardy, who are all through to the second round at Roland Garros this week.

Many players choose Dubai as a location for their pre-season training during the last two months of the year, citing great weather, facilities and similar conditions to the Australian Open. And Mouratoglou agrees that the emirate would be a perfect location for a new academy.

“We’ve been talking to many people. But for the moment there is nothing serious enough to say that something is going to happen,” Mouratoglou told Sport360° on the sidelines at Roland Garros.

“We are open to it and it’s definitely an option because I think it’s a great place to have an academy, to build something.

“Dubai is really one of the great places to do something like this. Where Dubai is, it’s a very strategic place, it’s a very modern place also. The weather is great and there are many good reasons to go there and off-season is one of them of course.”
