  • Mad rush: The Sevens event is one of the biggest sporting occassions in the UAE.

Organisers have today announced that ticket sales for the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens are up by 100% on last year’s figure for the same period.

Tickets for the event went on sale on 15 October 2014, and the response has been phenomenal.

Huge crowds are once again expected to attend one of the region’s favourite sporting and social occasions of the year.

The three-day annual rugby event attracts the world’s top players, and in excess of 100,000 people are expected to be there for this year’s event, which will be particularly competitive as the top four finishers in the men’s and women’s competitions will qualify automatically for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The event’s first ever Launch Party at Meydan Beach on October 17 kicked off the excitement and buzz around the event, and with numerous promotions and activities planned for the coming weeks, organisers are anticipating record numbers this year.

Reacting to the record-breaking early sales, Donal Kilalea, Tournament Commercial and Operations Director said: “We are delighted to see tickets selling so well. This event is such a big part of Dubai life – it’s not only a fantastic weekend of rugby but a great opportunity for bringing the community together in a really positive way.

"We are focusing heavily this year on providing a great family day out, with activities and entertainment for all ages. We have 2000 family seats set aside in the stands in a no-alcohol zone, a fantastic Sabaa 7s kids club with a circus workshop, bouncy castles and face painting, and a professional crèche for the littlest fans.

"It’s free entry to the event for children under 12, so it really is a great weekend for all the family to enjoy."

Tickets to this year’s Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens are available online and through a range of outlets, all the details are on the website www.dubairugby7s.com.

With tickets selling so fast fans are encouraged to buy early, which also saves money.
