Although the 22-year-old is still on course to defend his Masters title, the American was sitting pretty with a four-shot lead with just two holes to play on Saturday but bogeyed the 17th and double bogeyed the 18th after loose drives to finish on 73.
Fellow American Smylie Kaufman (-2) and veteran Germany Bernhard Langer (-1) are his nearest challengers going into the final day.
