  • Barcelona beat PSG and Man City to the signing of Frenkie de Jong.

Linked to several top European clubs after a string of stunning performances for Ajax and the Netherlands, Frenkie De Jong has been showered with praise from former Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez.

The Blaugrana legend believes the youngster has the traits to do well at the Catalan club and that he reminds him a bit of Sergio Busquets.

As it happens, De Jong is a top target for Barca this summer. Xavi said: “I have not seen him play a lot, but he does look like Sergio Busquets in terms of playing style.

“The Ajax school is a bit like the one in Barcelona. We all come from the Dutch school, via (Johan) Cruyff. De Jong is young, but I think he can make a huge contribution now.

“He is seen as a beastly talent. He is really a player to keep an eye on, a very good player.”

Paris Saint-Germain youngster Adrien Rabiot – another player to have attracted attention from the Catalan club – would also fit in well at Barca according to Xavi.

The Barca legend, now in charge of Al Sadd, added: “Arthur, Rabiot and De Jong are the type of players that Barcelona need. They are players who are technically very gifted, work hard for the team and have a lot of talent. Because that’s what Barcelona is all about.”
