  • Real Madrid have never been fond of the winter transfer market, but there are plans to strengthen the squad this January and the latest name to appear as an option is Radamel Falcao, according to Marca.

The Colombian is currently at Monaco, a club going through a tough season. The French giants reached the semi-finals of the Champions League two seasons ago and were crowned Ligue 1 champions the same season, but Thierry Henry’s side are now battling relegation from France’s top flight.

Veteran hitman Falcao is said to be looking for a way out and has offered his services to Madrid.

It is believed Falcao is being considered by the La Liga giants, but there isn’t any urgency with other alternatives being looked at.

The capital city club’s hierarchy are analysing the squad as a whole to determine exactly what is needed in addition to the impending arrival of River Plate midfielder Exequiel Palacios, with Espanyol defender Mario Hermoso another option.

Some directors are more concerned about enhancing the attacking positions, but there is also a desire to stick with the plan of signing young talents. With Falcao almost 33, he certainly wouldn’t meet that criteria.

Falcao signed a new deal with Monaco in the summer of 2017 and has another 18 months running on his current contract, but his representative Jorge Mendes knows his players need to be at clubs free from economic and sporting problems.

For Monaco, there is also a need to rid themselves of high salaries like Falcao’s. One option if Real do proceed with a pursuit of the former Atletico Madrid striker would be a loan until the end of the season.
