  • Former Chelsea and Juventus manager Antonio Conte is out of the running for the Real Madrid coaching job, according to the latest reports from Spain.

The Italian was highly touted to take over the hot seat at the Santiago Bernabeu with the noose tightening around coach Julen Lopetegui‘s neck following the 5-1 loss to Barcelona in El Clasico.

According to a report by Spanish television channel Cuatro, negotiations between Conte and the Real Madrid board have now broken down completely with the Italian fearing that his appointment will not be welcomed by the club’s players.

Another report by Spanish radio Onda Cero has also hinted towards negotiations between the two parties breaking down.

The reasons for the breakdown in the negotiations are not of a financial nature according to the report.

Conte’s appointment was said to be almost finalised with the Real Madrid board all set to hold talks over Lopetegui’s impending sacking on Monday evening.

However, with the Italian coach now said to be out of the running, Real Madrid Castilla coach Santiago Solari is being tipped to take over in an interim capacity.

Solari could be in the dugout when Real Madrid take on Melilla in Wednesday’s Copa del Rey clash.

Sunday’s Clasico loss at the hands of their arch-rivals Barcelona has seen Los Blancos slump to ninth spot in the La Liga standings with 14 points to show for their 10 matches so far.
