  • Barca-bound: Marc-Andre ter Stegen is expected to complete his move to Barcelona this summer.

Borussia Moenchengladbach confirmed that their Germany goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has been linked to Barcelona, will join a foreign club at the end of the season.

Ter Stegen, who has won three caps for Germany, has a Gladbach contract until 2015, but has told Borussia he wants to leave in June.

He has long been linked to Barcelona, whose goalkeeper Victor Valdes stands down at the end of the season after more than a decade.

Gladbach's director of sport Max Eberl revealed they had agreed terms with Ter Stegen's new club — whom he did not name — but confirmed it is based abroad.

The club are hoping to get a double-digit figure in the millions of euros for Ter Stegen and announced Swiss shot-stopper Yann Sommer as his replacement.

"After Marc-Andre ter Stegen informed us that he definitely wants to leave at end of season, we have reached an agreement with his new club on the transfer arrangements," said Eberl. "He will move abroad, that's now for sure.

"His successor in goal for Borussia will be Yann Sommer. He is an excellent goalkeeper who has already gained a lot of international experience and we are delighted that he has chosen us."

The 25-year-old Sommer joins from Swiss champions FC Basel and has signed a four-year deal, with the transfer deal reported to be around nine million euros.

"Everything is a little larger than in Switzerland," said Sommer, who will link up with Gladbach's Swiss coach Lucien Favre.

"Borussia is a traditional club and when you have the chance to play for them, you take it. The conversation with those in charge convinced me."
