  • Hard day’s night: The victorious UBL team.

A stunning double century by Mohammad Boota helped his side United Bank Limited (UBL) crush Red Flower Tourism by a massive margin of 176 runs in a Group C match of the 42nd Bukhatir League Tournament.

At the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Boota came in at a crunch situation after both the openers were out for ducks. He made exactly 200 as UBL raced to 325 for six in their stipulated 50 overs.

In reply, Red Flower Tourism were never in the hunt and were bowled out for 149.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, UBL had a terrifying start when they lost both their openers without any runs on the board, and it wasn’t easy for No. 3 and No. 4 Boota and Babar Hussain. But the two stuck to their task and were involved in a brilliant 204-run partnership for the third wicket as they occupied the crease for the next 34 overs to put their team on top.

Boota was in blistering form as he smashed 13 boundaries and 11 sixes during his 148-ball stay, while Hussain played the perfect second fiddle to score a patient 56 off 101 deliveries, supported by three fours and a six.

Mohammad Shakir chipped in with a quick 31-ball 34 including three fours as UBL reached 325 for six.

For Red Flower, Mati Ullah bowled well as he claimed four wickets for 65 runs in his 10 overs.

Chasing a huge target, Red Flower also suffered an early jolt losing their first wicket quickly. Ateeq Rahman held the innings with a patient 47 from 75 balls supported by four boundaries and a six before Umar Farooq bowled a brilliant spell to claim five wickets, blows from which Red Flower Tourism never recovered.

Vipin Venu scored a 56-ball 45 but only managed to delay the inevitable as Red Flower Tourism were bowled out for 149 in 32.5 overs. Farooq’s five-wicket haul came in nine overs in which he gave away 46 runs and bowled one maiden.

Boota was rightfully adjudged Man of the Match for his effort.

The Bukhatir League tournament is organised by Sharjah Cricket Council. The final of the tournament is scheduled for May 23.
