It was a night to remember for Peshawar Zalmi fast bowler Hasan Ali and one to forget quickly for Lahore Qalandars as Zalmi dismissed their opponents for just 78 en route to a thumping seven-wicket win in the Pakistan Super League.

The second match of Sunday was dominated by bowlers as well, owing to overcast conditions in Dubai. Peshawar quick Hasan made the most of the seaming conditions, snaring 4-15 to dismiss Qalandars for 78 in 15.1 overs.

In the chase, Zalmi lost two early wickets but the target was never going to trouble them as they scored the required runs with seven wickets in hand and almost 10 overs to spare.

Earlier, it was Hasan who added to the woes of Qalandars who entered the match without regular skipper Mohammad Hafeez.

Hafeez was diagnosed with a fractured finger following Saturday’s win over Karachi Kings and has been ruled out of action for at least three weeks.

In his absence, AB de Villiers was handed the captaincy reins. But it did nothing to change the batting fortunes of De Villiers as he continued to struggle in the PSL.

Coming into the match with scores of 24 and 3, ABD walked to the crease after Hasan had already dismissed openers Fakhar Zaman and Sohail Akhtar for identical scores of six.

De Villiers tried to force the issue against Hasan who was gaining appreciable movement off the pitch. The South African star advanced down the pitch but missed the line of the ball completely to be bowled for 14.

With that, Qalandars were reduced to 37-3 and their hopes of a decent total vanished. When Hasan burst through the defence of Brendan Taylor to have Qalandars 39-4, the writing was on the wall.

Left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz completed the formalities by picking up 3-17.

In the chase, Umar Amin scored an unbeaten fifty to seal victory.
