Kings XI Punjab need a miracle when they take on Chennai Super Kings in the final league fixture of the IPL on Sunday at Pune.

A Mumbai Indians victory against Delhi Daredevils will end all Punjab hopes. Moreover, Kings XI need to beat Chennai handsomely on Sunday to stand any chance of making the playoffs.

Skipper Ravichandran Ashwin will be hoping spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman takes the field in Pune. The Afghanistan sensation missed the side’s last two matches after sustaining an injury on his bowling hand in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The 17-year-old has been sensational in his maiden IPL campaign with 14 wickets in 11 matches at an economy of less than seven runs an over. The Afghanistan man has been one of the stars for the franchise this season with the ball along with Australia’s Andrew Tye, who is the leading wicket-taker.

Kings XI coach Brad Hodge had expressed optimism that Mujeeb will be fit to bowl against Chennai when he was asked for an update during the side’s last match. So far, there has been no further word from the team management as to whether the teenager will play on Sunday.

If Mujeeb misses out against the Super Kings, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis should continue to feature in the playing XI.
