  • Pakistan are yet to taste a World Cup win against India.

Former skipper Moin Khan is confident Pakistan can end their ICC World Cup drought against arch-rivals India when the two teams meet in England later this year.

Pakistan have failed to beat India in six attempts when it comes to the World Cup but Moin believes that the side’s Champions Trophy final win over their neighbours in 2017 should give them the confidence to break that jinx in England.

“This present team is very capable of recording a first win over India in a World Cup because there is talent, there is depth and variety and Sarfraz Ahmed has now gelled the squad well,” Moin told GTV News on Tuesday.

“I say this because our boys beat them in the Champions Trophy two years back and I just feel that in English conditions in June we have better bowlers,” the former wicketkeeper-batsman added.

The Men in Green are chasing their second World Cup title after lifting the crown in 1992 and Moin feels that English conditions could suit them extremely in that bid.

“Pakistan has been one team which has done well in England in the last many years and in May-June the weather can be unpredictable and there is moisture in the pitches,” he stated.

Ending all speculation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently confirmed the appointment of Sarfraz Ahmed as the Pakistan skipper for the 2019 World Cup. Moin, who will team up with Sarfraz at Quetta Gladiators in the upcoming Pakistan Super League, has backed the PCB’s decision to stick with the wicketkeeper.

“I have seen Sarfraz lead the team and I know since he was a junior and I have captained and coached him and I can tell you there is no better person to lead the Pakistan team than him now,” he said.

The 2019 World Cup clash between Pakistan and India will take place on June 16 at Old Trafford in Manchester.
