India got off to an excellent start on the opening day of the Boxing Day Test against Australia as opener Mayank Agarwal hit a fifty on debut.
India won the toss and decided to bat first in Melbourne on Wednesday with a new-look opening pair of Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari.
Vihari was dismissed early by Pat Cummins after struggling against the short ball but Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara teamed up to take India past 100 without any further loss.
Agarwal was dismissed for a well-made 76 before Pujara and captain Virat Kohli upped the ante.
Pujara was unbeaten on 68 and Kohli on 47 as India reached stumps on 215-2.
