Darren Bravo cracked 94 not out off just 36 balls as Trinbago Knight Riders clinched an exhilarating five-wicket win with one ball to spare against the St Lucia Stars in the Caribbean Premier League.

It was a memorable match at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground as a world-record 34 sixes were hit during the game.

Batting first David Warner (72), Kieron Pollard (65) and Rahkeem Cornwall (53) made half-centuries to lift the Stars to 212 for two. They seemed to have the game in the bag when the Knight Riders went into the last five overs of the chase needing 85 for victory.

Bravo hit five sixes from Pollard’s final over – the 16th – to bring the equation to 53 from 24. The next over, bowled by Obed McCoy, saw Brendon McCullum smashing two fours and as many sixes.

Cornwall was hit for three sixes in the 18th over as the target came down to just five needed from two overs.

There was time for more drama, however. Pacer Mitchell McClenaghan bowled a fine penultimate over that included two wickets and only two runs conceded.

The last over, bowled by McCoy, raised St Lucia’s hopes as Bravo only managed a single from three balls. Of the second last ball of the match, Denesh Ramdin hit the 34th and final six of the night. It was the joint-highest number of sixes hit in a T20 match, matching the Central District-Otago clash in 2016.
